Echoes of Illumination

Inspired by the traces of visitation, this sound piece imagines the soundscapes that existed in and around the dome of Yahya al-Shabih. It begins with descriptive accounts from Kutub al-Ziyara (The Books of Visitation), that detail the religious celebrations around the shrines of Ahl al-Bayt and life in the surrounding cemetery from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Then, it travels to a more contemporary history, where the frequency and scale of these rituals diminished, yet visitation to the dome persisted. The site continues to draw visitors from within Egypt and beyond, accompanied by their religious prayers and rituals. Through sound, this piece traces loss and continuity, imagining the shifting rhythms in devotion.

يتناول هذا التكوين السمعي المشاهد الصوتية المتناثرة حول قبة يحيى الشبيه بتتبع مسارات الزيارة. يبدأ التكوين باستعراض الاحتفالات الدينية حول أضرحة ومشاهد آل البيت، كما يصف أشكال الحياة المختلفة في القرافة المجاورة في القرنين الثاني عشر والثالث عشر الميلادي من خلال ما تم سرده في كتب الزيارة. ثم يخطو إلى التاريخ المعاصر حيث اندثرت هذه الطقوس وتشتت الحياة في القرافة، في حين بقت الزيارة لقبة يحيى الشبيه مستمرة، حيث يتجه إليها المريدين من داخل مصر ومن خارجها مستحضرين شعائرهم ودعواتهم. وهكذا يستكشف هذا التكوين السمعي فحوى الفقد والاستمرارية من خلال تصور التحولات في أنماط التفاعل مع المكان.
